DC Thomson extends art licensing programme

Leading comic publisher DC Thomson & Co.Ltd has announced a partnership with Art You Grew Up With to create the official Beano and Dandy Fine Art Programme.

Over the last few months Art You Grew Up With has been trawling through the rich comic archive at publishers DC Thomson and have selected some incredible artwork which is being published as fine art limited editions in various formats, price-points and editions.

The Collection has been launched this week with a special exhibition at Selfridges Oxford Street store in London. The artwork is on show and for sale within Selfridges’ book department. The Collection features front cover artwork and interior artwork. The artwork will be available framed and unframed. It is printed on heavyweight Fine Art paper and is produced as limited edition product.

Art You Grew Up With will market the range to its existing customer network through targeted mailings and will also develop relationships with retailers and galleries. The artwork will also be sold through www.artyougrewupwith.com

This development will sit alongside existing Beano and Dandy licensees such as The Comic Art Website who create  original screenprints based on comic art from The Beano and The Dandy and Fine Digital Print who hold rights for Canvas Art of the comics. Art You Grew Up With will be looking to develop other products in the near future and are looking at developments from other DC Thomson titles such as Commando.

Ian Downes from Start Licensing, licensing agent for The Beano and The Dandy commented: "Art You Grew Up With are a specialist and skilled player in the fine art sector with good links to retail and galleries. We felt that this was a good time to develop this sector further building on the existing partnerships we have and giving us access to new outlets for the artwork. There is no doubt that The Beano and The Dandy have some of the UK’s finest comic artwork in their archive and we look forward to bringing more of this into the public domain. This dovetails well with other licensees such as Wild & Wolf who are having great success with their range of stationery and gifts based on original comic art."
