BBC Worldwide prepares for 12th BLE appearance
BBC is set to present a portfolio filled with
some of the most recognisable and innovative international brands with
fresh additions alongside
family favourites.
In addition to a newly-designed booth providing visitors with a walk-through experience of BBC Worldwide brands, a private viewing theatre will allow visitors to fully engage with each property.
The rocking new property, ZingZillas will be a key focus throughout the show as BLE provides the first opportunity to showcase a
comprehensive range of ZingZillas product, led by UK master toy
licensee Vivid Imaginations. The Vivid range - which has already been
tipped as a Christmas must-have by Hamley’s - includes musically-themed
and talking plush toys, playsets, outdoor products and games. The team
will also be showcasing product across key areas such as lunchware and
melamine, apparel and toiletries through licensees including DNC UK,
Hall and Associates Ltd and Akyroyds and TDP Licensing. Already supported by 17 licensees, partners are confident that the brand will follow in the steps on other global successes from BBC Worldwide, such as In the Night Garden and the Teletubbies, to become the next big name in children’s licensing.
Other pre-school properties being presented include In the Night Garden, Teletubbies and Wibbly Pig. In the Night Garden is rapidly establishing an evergreen status with its recent sale to US
broadcaster The HUB, and BBC Worldwide is developing the licensing programme for the region. Igglepiggle and friends now reach audiences in 36
countries around the globe, from South Africa to Sweden and China to
Canada. Teletubbies maintains its evergreen status,
with significant recent sales to broadcasters in both Italy and Spain, while the first Wibbly Pig DVD is set to
go on sale this October through partnership with 2entertain. Wibbly Pig has also recently announced a master-licensee
partnership with Rainbow Designs and a deal with
Brecrest to produce a range of children’s apparel.
Adult properties include Top Gear and Doctor Who. Top Gear has been sold in over 170 territories worldwide with local formats sold to Australia, Russia and the US, paving the way for international licensing opportunities. UK licensing continues to go from strength to strength, with over 25 licensees working behind the brand, including master licensee Wow! Stuff. Doctor Who continues to play an important role for BBC Worldwide, and earlier this year BBC Worldwide confirmed a new partnership with Wow! Stuff, which will see a range of adult gift products reaching retailers for autumn/winter, 2010.
Eco-based children’s property
dirtgirlworld has also recently extended into licensed consumer
products, with BBC Worldwide inking a deal with CP International
Clothing Ltd to produce a range of high-end, organic clothing. Initial
lines will launch through independent retailers for spring/summer 2011,
with plans to explore further opportunities later in the year.
