Kidscreen awards expand for 2011

Building on last year's high-profile celebration of 21 top kids shows at KidScreen Summit this past February, the industry’s global awards for excellence in children’s television has announced the first phase of its 2011 Call for Entries.

The KidScreen Awards is now accepting entries for shows that target pre-schoolers, kids, tweens/teens and families in the following categories:

  • Best animated series
  • Best non-animated or mixed series
  • Best one-off, special or TV movie
  • Best companion website.

Winners will be chosen by juries of the industry’s most highly respected entertainment professionals, who will also single out programmes that merit special Creative Talent Awards for animation, directing, voice talent, writing, music, design and acting.

A dedicated set of awards for best efforts in kids broadcasting from around the world will also join the KSA 2011 lineup. KidScreen will begin accepting online entries in early September for an overall Channel of the Year award, as well as in special achievement categories covering Best Channel Design, Best Integrated Promotion, Best Interstitial Campaign, Best Channel Website and Best On-Air Host.

KidScreen Award 2011 winners in all categories will be announced at an evening presentation event as part of next year’s KidScreen Summit, which is set to take place in New York from February 15 to 18.

“The children’s entertainment industry embraced our first awards effort whole-heartedly last year, demonstrating loud and clear the need for inclusive kids programming prizes that go beyond borders to suss out the world’s best kids content,” says KidScreen VP and publisher Jocelyn Christie.

“We’re looking forward to providing that showcase for excellence again next year, and welcoming a much bigger audience as we celebrate all of our winners at KidScreen Summit 2011.”

Detailed information on eligibility, judging and how to enter can be found at www.awards.kidscreen.com. The deadline for entries in the Programming Categories is September 17, 2010, while a separate Call for Entries in the Broadcasting Categories will follow in early September.
