Egmont secure Blast Lab
Egmont UK has announced a magazine deal with the popular children’s TV programme Blast Lab.
The BBC2 and CBBC BAFTA-winning show, fronted by Richard Hammond and represented by DCD Publishing, will be featured in a special issue of Egmont’s Allabout... magazine series in May. The issue will be jam-packed with bizarre science experiments, mad inventions and crazy quizzes for kids to try at home..
This deal with Egmont will be the first time Blast Lab has taken its content into magazine format and will support the TV and online presence of the show.
Siobhan Galvin, publisher, said: “We are thrilled to announce this tie up with Blast Lab. The TV show is incredibly popular and full of creative ideas that can be converted into engaging and colourful magazine content. Our expertise in communicating with the Blast Lab audience is evidenced by the success of our brand magazine Toxic, which is read by 46,543 kids every issue. We hope this special issue will be the start of a beautiful friendship with the Blast Lab team.”
Michael Gottlieb, head of licensing at DCD Publishing, said: “Blast Lab is a fantastic DCD Publishing property that will transfer into magazine content brilliantly. We are delighted to be teaming up with Egmont for this project as their insight into how to communicate with eight to 12 years olds through the print format is second to none, and we are delighted with the way the magazine has captured the fun and energy of the show on the page.”
Richard Hammond’s Blast Lab is a DCD/September Films & Hamster’s Wheel production for BBC2/CBBC. A second season of 26 new episodes is due to air later this year.
