Grandpa’s back — and he’s bigger than ever!
BBC commissions third series of Grandpa in my Pocket and a Christmas special
Hot on the heels of the success of the second series of Grandpa in my Pocket, creators Mellie Buse and Jan Page are delighted to announce that a third series has been commissioned.
Adastra Creative will be creating a raft of 13 new episodes of the BAFTA-nominated series starring James Bolam. CBeebies has also commissioned the company to make a Christmas special adventure for the tiny pensioner.
Decode Enterprises, the distribution subsidiary of DHX Media Ltd, has the worldwide television, DVD and consumer products rights for Grandpa in my Pocket and will be distributing both the series and the special, extending a relationship with the show’s creators that has helped to make Grandpa in my Pocket one of the big pre-school hits of recent years.
It is anticipated that the Christmas special will air this year on the CBeebies channel. Meanwhile, series one, volume one of Grandpa in my Pocket was released on DVD in mid March, with a second volume scheduled for release in June.
The Grandpa licensing campaign will initially include publishing, apparel and toys. The core target market of the show is the upper end of preschool — the four to six age group — but Grandpa has proven popularity above and below these ages as well as a strong image as a family brand.
Licensing activity is also moving overseas, where Grandpa in my Pocket has now been sold to over 100 territories worldwide.
