Aardman secures new deals for Wallace & Gromit
Further pre-sales agreed with key broadcasters in France and Germany for new live action TV series Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention.
Both France Télévisions and Super RTL have acquired the 6 x 30-min inventions-inspired show, fronted and presented by the Oscar-winning family favourites and commissioned by BBC One for broadcast in late 2010. The series, which includes a combination of live action and animation, has already been sold to ABC Australia, DR Denmark, YLE Finland and Thai PBS.
As part of this deal, France Télévisions is coming on board with the entire Wallace & Gromit franchise, taking the rights for all four short films plus the Cracking Contraptions TV series. France Télévisions will also pick up the rights to series one and two of the International Emmy Award-winning children’s series Shaun the Sheep.
Aardman is also expanding its TV offering in Germany, with Super RTL not only pre-buying the brand new Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention series to compliment their existing portfolio of Wallace & Gromit films, but also acquiring the third series of the hugely successful pre-school show Timmy Time, due for delivery in 2011.
Aardman’s head of sales, Alix Wiseman, commented: “These are extremely significant deals for us and we are thrilled to have both France Télévisions and Super RTL on board for Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention. It has been really exciting for us to take Wallace and Gromit into a new genre and it’s fantastic to have such strong pre-sales from around the world. We have always enjoyed a firm following in Europe for Shaun the Sheep and now Timmy Time is following in his footsteps so it’s great to secure further deals for these shows as well.”
