Peppa Pig promotes charity triathlon

E1 Entertainment’s Peppa Pig will be partnering with national nursery chain Busy Bees this month on a positive campaign to promote healthy living to families.

The ‘Busy Bees Early Years Change4Life’ campaign is a week of healthy, active events taking place at Busy Bees nurseries in July and one of the week’s highlights will be a Peppa Pig Triathlon to help raise money for Peppa’s official charity partner, baby charity Tommy’s.

The Peppa Pig fundraiser offers a unique take on the traditional triathlon by substituting  swimming, cycling and running with activities aimed at young children which will include splashing in muddy puddles, riding a trike and running. Even the little ones who haven’t yet learnt to walk will be able to take part in a sponsored crawl. Children at Busy Bees will raise money for Tommy’s research in to pregnancy complications by asking friends and family to sponsor them.

In addition to the triathlon, every fundraising Busy Bees nursery will be entered into a prize draw to win a visit from Peppa herself! The highest fundraising nurseries will receive a bumper pack of Peppa Pig goodies and every child who raises sponsorship will receive a personalised thank you letter and a Peppa Pig magazine. Plus, on the day every child that takes part will receive a Peppa sticker and certificate.

From the 12th – 23rd July, Busy Bees Nurseries in the UK will be taking part in the Department of Health’s, Change4Life campaign which aims to kick start a lifestyle revolution for families in order to halt the rise obesity in the UK. Experts say without any intervention, by 2050, 90 per cent of today's children will be overweight or obese and at risk from serious diseases. As part of this new movement there is extensive support and information to help families, and particularly children, live healthier lives.

Andrew Carley, head of licensing at E1 Entertainment says: “We are pleased to be working with Busy Bees on their Change4Life initiative and delighted that the Peppa Pig triathlon will help young children get excited about doing healthy activities. This is a fun and appealing way to raise money for Tommy’s and also encourages families to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Peppa has been raising money for Tommy’s since 2006 and has to date raised in excess of £650,000.  The relationship will continue into 2011 with activity already planned with ASDA for January.
