VEGAS 2010: BBC Worldwide takes In The Night Garden to the USA
BAFTA award-winning pre-school series is to premiere in US on Discovery Communications-Hasbro multi-platform joint venture children’s Network The Hub.
From October 2010 pre-school children across the US will be able to join Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy on their adventures as In the Night Garden airs in the US for the first time, as The Hub has secured broadcasting rights for all 100 x 30 episodes.
Produced by Ragdoll Productions for Ragdoll Worldwide Ltd, In the Night Garden is modern televisual interpretation of a nursery rhyme picture book. Shot in high-definition, the tone of the programme is deliberately literary and it is both funny and reassuring, with a capacity to relax and entertain. The programme weaves together the very latest technical innovations in live-character costume technology and computer animation to create a compelling and fully immersive experience for young viewers.
In the Night Garden has been a phenomenal success in the UK, earning high-ratings, awards, (including Best Pre-school Programme at the 2010 Broadcast Awards and BAFTA’s for Best Pre-school Live Action in 2007 and 2008), and critical acclaim since its launch in 2007. The show has sold over one million DVDs, 2.5 million books and 4.4 million plush toys in the UK alone. TV sales now total 35 countries, and the show is translated into 19 languages.
Neil Ross Russell, MD of Children's Global Brands and Licensed Consumer Products said: “In the Night Garden has enchanted pre-schoolers and their families across the world with its endearing characters and beautiful, vivid settings and imagery – all filmed in high-definition. We’re thrilled to be part of The Hub’s inaugural line-up and for US audiences to experience In the Night Garden.”
