Roobarb and Custard in books

Bulldog Licensing has announces that animated icons Roobarb and Custard
are soon to appear in a range of illustrated books from Mogzilla.
Roobarb, the madcap yellow dog, and his feline adversary Custard were
created by Grange Calveley in the early 70s and were the stars of the
Bob Godfrey directed BBC cartoon series Roobarb. Narrated by Richard
Briers, only one series was made originally, but the trademark wobbly
animation, zany storylines and the fiendishly catchy theme tune made
the show into a cult sensation and it won a legion of devoted followers
of all ages during the 70s and 80s. The dynamic duo returned to UK
screens in 2005 with Roobarb and Custard Too, which has since broadcast
continually on Channel Five, pulling in a whole new generation of
fans.
The new deal sees Mogzilla release three new fully-illustrated
titles this month. Each 32-page story is based on one of the programme
scripts.
This adds to a growing licensing programme for the brand, with
products targeting the adult collector market already selling strongly
across the UK market, including apparel lines from Poetic Gem,
greetings cards from Museums and Galleries, amusement plush from PMS
and canvas wall art from Riviera.
Licensing agent Bulldog is also targeting a variety of categories
that will suit Roobarb and Custard’s unique appeal including gift
plush, stationery and fashion accessories.“This brand is already doing
very well due to its huge retro appeal,” says Bulldog MD Rob Corney,
“but this new deal sees the licensing programme expanding to take in
young fans who are discovering Roobarb and Custard for the first time
as well as appealing to the nostalgia in all of us.”
