Turner gets Fresh with Total Drama

Turner CN Enterprises has acquired the licensing and merchandising rights to Fresh TV’s Total Drama.

Total Drama is the first ever tween-targeted animated comedy reality series, which parodies reality television. The Enterprises team will be responsible for the product licensing and Home Entertainment of the whole Total Drama franchise, which includes Total Drama Island, Total Drama Action, Total Drama World Tour and Total Drama Season 4.

Total Drama Island was Fresh TV Inc’s first animated reality TV spoof, which became CAKE’s best-selling property of 2008 and the most watched programme on Cartoon Network by 11 to 16 year-olds.  Total Drama Action, the follow-up series, is an animated comedy for tweens, which showcases all the elements of tweens’ favourite reality TV shows within the framework of an exciting, larger-than-life elimination competition. The third series in the franchise, Total Drama World Tour, features contestants who have to sing dance, and battle it out in outrageous challenges set all around the globe. 3x26 episode seasons have been produced with each season supported by unique multiplatform games, a website and competitions, which are all tied into weekly episodes.

Jason Rice, director of licensing (Russia, Africa, Middle East and Israel) and Live Events, Turner CN Enterprises says: “Total Drama is the only tween targeting animated comedy reality series featuring an authentic and compelling cast, extremely hilarious challenges and off-screen multiplatform elements where tweens can get more involved. We’re thrilled to be developing an innovative merchandise programme focusing initially on soft lines, publishing, DVD and promotions targeting boys and girls aged eight to 13 years.”

Tom McGillis, executive producer, Fresh TV, adds: “Fresh is dedicated to providing cutting-edge material that resonates with the teen and tween audience and Total Drama represents this mandate to the fullest. We are so excited that CAKE will help bring our highly addictive series to tweens around the globe.”
