TV deals for LazyTown
In the run-up to MIPTV, LazyTown signed a raft of new TV deals with more to come.
Following it’s successful launch on the BBC four years ago, the channel has now renewed for a further five years, proving the continued rating performance and longevity of what is fast becoming an evergreen brand. The show won the UK's prestigious BAFTA awards in 2006 and has proved to be one of the country's most popular children’s programmes showing daily on both Cbeebies and Nick Jr.
LazyTown’s first season premiered on Italy’s RAI 3 in February following a successful trial run in August 2009 and enjoyed a share of 30 per cent of all four- to 14-year olds on the first Sunday it was broadcast. After a further incredible rise in share of audience to 50 per cent, the channel has moved to stripped weekday scheduling.
EBS Korea has renewed their existing license as a result of the success of its first airing. The channel can also proudly claim to be the first broadcaster in the world to show the full series of LazyTown in HD from February 2010. The broadcaster has also acquired LazyTown Extra. Extra has been picked Mediacorp Singapore, evidence of Asia’s rising interest in the programme.
In Latin America, LazyTown has now launched on UCTV13 Chile and signed a new license with TV AZTECA Mexico, both scheduling next to a Disney block. In French speaking Canada TVA has picked up LazyTown as part of the launch of their new pre-school channel. In Eastern Europe, LazyTown launched earlier this year on Kazakhstan TV, and is broadcast every weekend dubbed into Kazakh.
Adam Selly, head of TV for LazyTown Entertainment, commented: “I’m very excited that all these new deals are coming in and I’m looking forward to expanding our reach into new markets and territories, as well as consolidating our position with our existing broadcasters.”
