The Gruffalo Oscar nomination

The Sharpe Company, licensing agent for The Gruffalo, has announced it has received an Oscar nomination for the half-hour animated film adapted from the book.

The Gruffalo has been nominated in the Short Film (Animated) category and the awards will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 27th. The Gruffalo was also nominated for a BAFTA in 2010.

The Gruffalo animated special, which made its US debut on ABC Family in December as part of the network's annual "25 Days of Christmas" programming event, features an all-star voice cast including Robbie Coltrane as the Gruffalo, Helena Bonham Carter as the narrator, Rob Brydon as the Snake, James Corden as the Mouse, John Hurt as the Owl, and Tom Wilkinson as the Fox.

Produced by Magic Light Pictures, the 30-minute animation was completed in 2009 and premiered in the UK on BBC1 on Christmas Day receiving 10 million viewers and 42.6 per cent share of the total audience; one of the highest rated programs of the year.

Sharpe, which represents The Gruffalo in North America, on behalf of Magic Light Pictures, has just signed University Games for games/puzzles and will shortly be announcing the US plush partner – both companies will be showing products at the upcoming New York Toy Fair in February.
