The Moomins come to London

The Moomins have been celebrated at a new festival in London.

Pop Up, a new free, public festival celebrating literature and stories, took place in and around Coram's Fields in the Bloomsbury area of London on the 9th and 10th of July.

The Pop Up programme was packed with special events devoted to authors, characters and much-loved stories, including Moomin.

The Moomin picnic, supported by the Embassy of Finland in London, took place on the first day of the festival and was a big success. Visitors enjoyed cakes and drinks based on recipes from the Moomins Cookbook published by SelfMadeHero.

Puffin, publisher of Moomin picture, sticker, activity, board and novelty books, joined in the fun by creating a never-before-seen Moomin story-telling event based on the magical Moomin and the Birthday Button book. Puffin also supplied Moomin colouring sheets, pencils, badges and postcards, which were circulated among the younger guests throughout the day.

Doug Wallace, marketing director of SelfMadeHero, the independent publisher of graphic novels and gift books, commented: "We were thrilled that Moomin was chosen to be a part of this wonderful celebration of children’s literature. The Pop Up programme itself called Moomin 'the most magical fun' and judging from the delight on the faces of all ages, the chance to listen to the stories, meet Moomintroll and experience a Moomin picnic was just that."

Caroline Mickler, MD of Caroline Mickler Limited, licensing agent for Moomin, added: "The popularity of these Moomin-themed events was a touching reminder of the enduring appeal of Moomin and the continuing relevance of the books and characters to a modern audience. It was a privilege for Moomin to be a part of this brilliantly organised and imagined festival and I wish Pop Up every success in the years to come."
