Warner Bros. adds to ThunderCats licensing programme

The 1980’s revival is continuing at Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK as the licensor has announced that a further four partners have been added to the ThunderCats licensing programme, bringing the total number of partners to 9.

New partners recently announced include TV Mania who is on-board for children’s apparel, focusing on t-shirts and hoodies, and Cooneen has taken the licence for children’s nightwear and underwear.

Zeon is planning a range of watches, bags and gifts for adults and children, which will feature classic artwork and imagery from the new ThunderCats series and Gemma International will be bringing out a range of paper party wear, greeting cards and gift wrap to market.

These latest licensees join master toy licensee Bandai who will be launching a toy range that is scheduled to debut at UK retail just in time for Christmas 2011.

Award winning licensee MV Sports is also on-board for wheeled toys and scooters, and Rubie's will be producing dress up for adults and children, along with Character World producing branded bedding and Panini publishing the first ThunderCats magazine.

The ThunderCats licensing programme will be supported by all-new content in the form of an animated series that is due to hit UK TV screens in the third quarter of 2011.

Paul Bufton, general manager, Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK commented: “The fact that we’ve signed 9 licensing deals before the new ThunderCats TV series has even been broadcast is a great indication of our partner’s faith in the potential of the ThunderCats franchise.  Whilst ThunderCats is being treated as an exciting new brand for boys, it is the only property competing in this space that also benefits from the nostalgic and powerful endorsement of parents who enjoyed ThunderCats as kids and are now thrilled to have the opportunity to share it with their own children.  We’re confident that ThunderCats is on track to re-emerge as the UK’s hottest boys brand.”
