WotWots land American Greetings Properties

American Greetings Corporation has announced that it has acquired the licensing and merchandising rights to the popular preschool property, the WotWots.

As part of the agreement with production company Pukeko Pictures, American Greetings Properties has signed on to represent the WotWots brand worldwide.

From the minds at Richard Taylor's Academy Award-winning Weta Workshop (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) and Pukeko Pictures, the WotWots is a pre-school series about the adventures of SpottyWot and DottyWot. The pair have come to Earth to explore and to marvel at the extraordinary diversity of life on the blue planet. The show celebrates this joy of discovery and demonstrates the positive values that are the building blocks of a true and enduring friendship.

American Greetings Properties will develop a comprehensive licensing programme around the pre-school brand that will initially focus on key merchandise categories including apparel, publishing, back-to-school, home décor and home textiles.

Carla Silva, vice president of global licensing at American Greetings Properties, commented: “We are very happy to be partnering with Pukeko Pictures to represent the WotWots on a global scale. The series’ first season has already proven to be a strong performer on The Hub and has quickly become pre-schoolers’ favourite alien adventure. We look forward to building an exciting licensing programme for children that brings to life these lovable characters and helps further encourage the brand’s core values of kindness and co-operation."

Co-founder of Weta Workshop, Sir Richard Taylor, commented: "This is a very exciting time for the WotWots as we partner with American Greetings Properties. This international licensing and merchandising deal will ensure the continued growth of the brand and its success in reaching and being accessible to pre-schoolers. American Greetings Properties is a leader in the pre-school market so we are looking forward to working with them and building the best possible global licensing programme for the WotWots."

The WotWots is currently airing its first season in the U.S. on The Hub, a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, Inc., and will return for a second season in autumn 2011. The series also airs internationally on Treehouse in Canada, Five.TV in the U.K., and ABC2 in Australia, in addition to Korea, the Middle East and Poland.
