CPLG Sport links up with MCC

Marylebone Cricket Club has appointed CPLG Sport as the exclusive licensing agent in the UK for the Ashes Urn trade mark until 2015

Founded in 1787, MCC is the world’s most famous and active cricket playing club.  As well as fulfilling over 500 fixtures every year – in the UK and overseas – it also owns and maintains Lord’s Cricket Ground, and plays an important role in the development of cricket worldwide.  From owning the game’s Laws to safeguarding its Spirit, MCC is committed to the good of the game.

In addition to representing the spiritual Home of Cricket, Lord’s is also home to the most celebrated symbol of sporting rivalry, the famous Ashes Urn.  Bequeathed to MCC by former England captain, Ivo Bligh, upon his death in 1927, the irreplaceable artefact resides in the MCC Museum and is seen by tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world every year.

CPLG Sport will now work alongside MCC to promote the licensing opportunities which are available across all key categories for the iconic Ashes Urn.  This new relationship represents an exciting prospect for potential licensees, presenting them with access to an abundance of assets that highlight the competition’s rich heritage.

"We are delighted to be working with MCC and to be representing the Ashes Urn in the UK,” says Nicola Lord, Senior Commercial Manager, CPLG Sport.  “The brand is one of the most iconic and recognised in the whole of sport and we are looking forward to working with promotional partners and high-end licensees across all categories."

MCC Assistant Secretary, Jon Robinson, said:

“This is an exciting new relationship for MCC, and forms a significant part of the Club’s long-term strategy to grow multiple MCC brands on a global scale.

“Following the success of the England men’s team during the past two Ashes Series, it is the perfect time to take this iconic brand outside the gates of Lord’s.  Through CPLG Sport, we will now start the search for appropriate licensees to develop Ashes Urn branded products in the build-up to England’s defence of the Ashes in the 2013 Series, in which Lord’s will stage a Test Match.”
