Worms merchandise wriggles its way into retail
Plush toys, posters and much more for the legendary video brand
Team 17 and AT New Media, licensing agent on behalf of Team 17 for the
Worms merchandise, have announced that the first lines of Worms
branded product are now available from retailers across Europe.
Since the first incarnation of the hilarious strategy game was unleashed
onto the video-gaming world in 1995, the wriggling warriors have
appeared on over 20 gaming platforms and an ever-increasing number of
titles has led to sales of approximately 30 million retail copies to
date. The Worms brand has also been at the forefront of modern
distribution trends and has seen sales in excess of 13 million on mobile
phone handsets (Worms for iPhone on the Apple AppStore has seen the
game achieve number 1 in over 40 countries, and the ‘top 5 games’ chart
position in over 70 countries), as well as enjoying huge success on the
new digital video-game platforms, with Number 1 hits on Xbox LIVE
Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Steam for PC.
Gaya has now launched its eagerly awaited new plush range based on the
Super Sheep - one of the cutest and most potent weapons in the Worms™
crazy arsenal of weapons – that features a sound chip that plays the
Super Sheep’s explosive fanfare when squeezed. The product is now
available from a variety of quality partners across Europe, including
Amazon in the UK and Germany, TheGeekestLink.com (United Kingdom),
Gamelegends.de (Germany), Fnac.es (Spain), GAME.se (Scandinavia), and
Foregames.nl (Benelux), with more to follow soon.
A fantastic Worms poster is also available courtesy of GB Posters - the
full colour ‘maxi’ poster features five colourfully attired Worms
characters adorned with the slogan “WE’LL GET YOU!” and can be bought
directly from the company’s website at www.gbposters.com.
This promises to be just the start of an extensive Worms licensing
programme - other merchandise currently in development and set to be
launched in 2012 includes a fantastic range of collectible plush and
keyrings from IGS (GameOn), as well as apparel, squeezies, mugs,
figurines and collectibles.
Alan Perrie, Head of Marketing at Team17 says, “Considering we only
started this process earlier this year, we are incredibly excited by the
results and where this merchandising program is taking the Worms brand.
We look forward to bringing more merchandise partners on board in 2012,
as we also continue to develop and bring to market new, high quality
and exciting Worms games and Apps across numerous platforms next year,
and also integrating our merchandising program even further into our
release schedule.”
Simon Kay, CEO of AT New Media, adds, “Worms as a brand is selling more
units now than ever before, and with this growing interest, we have
started to see a fantastic range of products and concepts develop. We
hope that the existing and new Worms fans love the ‘incoming’ range of
merchandise, and enjoy how the significant depth and customization that
exists within this great gaming brand lends itself to some very exciting
and innovative products.”
