Rainbow gladiator spoof picked up by Paramount

Rainbow Studio has confirmed major deals with Paramount and Medusa for its latest 3D feature film, Not born to be Gladiators.

Paramount ill handle all North American distribution while Medusa will handle Italy. "It’s a big opportunity for an independent producer to get a quality 3D CGI-animated comedy to a studio level, we hope to represent a new step forward for European animation in terms of quality and international success,’ said Rainbow founder, Iginio Straffi.

Paramount parent Viacom recently acquired 30% of Rainbow and plans to broadcast future Rainbow TV programming on Nickelodeon and distribute feature films through Paramount.

Not Born To Be Gladiators has a $55 million budget and a script by the Oscar-winning writer of A Shark’s Tale and Ice Age 2, Michael J. Wilson. Rainbow and Paramount are currently in discussion with high profile actors for the voices of the main characters.

Left as an orphan by the terrible eruption of Pompeii, young Timo finds himself in a Rome gladiator school despite being slightly overweight and  bit out of shape. Determined to win the hand of the school owner's daughter, Lucilla, Timo first resorts to cheating with a strength potion before adopting a mysterious training regime in preparation for his sell-out fight against Cassio, the reigning champion and Lucilla's betrothed.
