Space sweeps up Sooty

Space Enterprises has been appointed as licensing agent for Sooty and Sweep - the latest TV series to feature Sooty, Sweep and Soo, which is set to hit UK screens later this year.

The series has been commissioned by ITV and will premiere on weekdays on the CiTV digital channel from September 2011 before airing on ITV Breakfast (ITV1) on weekend mornings from the beginning of 2012.

The new show will follow the adventures of Sooty, Sweep and Soo as they join their long-suffering companion Richard when he takes on a role as handyman at a coastal holiday park.

The gang is getting to grips with their new duties – fixing fairground rides, helping out at the zoo and collecting supplies from the nearby village shop. The show will feature Sooty’s trademark mixture of music, magical effects, strong visual comedy and celebrity guests will appear throughout in cameo roles.

The new series builds on more than sixty years of heritage – Sooty first came to prominence in the 1950s and has enjoyed sustained popularity ever since, with an almost continuous presence on UK screens. Space will be looking to build on the property’s huge popularity to build up a wide ranging licensing programme.

Steve O`Pray, managing director at Space Enterprises, commented: “Sooty and Sweep is the latest incarnation of a truly classic brand and this new show is sure to be a big hit.

“Children discovering the characters for the first time will be enthralled, whilst grandparents and parents remember them from their own childhood, which makes for huge potential from a licensing perspective," he added.
