SpongeBob SquarePants goes to Savile Row
Nickelodeon Consumer Products UK have announced the launch of an exclusive SpongeBob SquarePants clothing line in collaboration with Savile Row tailor Richard James.
The range, available from Wednesday 11th May, comprises a signature yellow suit, shirts, ties and pocket squares which feature iconography and colours from Nickelodeon’s hit animated series. Each item of the collection will be individually numbered and the signature suit will be made to order.
The collection is the result of the first collaboration with a licensee to work across the new SpongeBob by SpongeBob range; a brand extension aimed at the high-end fashion sector.
Richard James (the British Fashion Council’s Bespoke Designer of the Year) is known for incorporating colour into his collections and this is reflected in the SpongeBob series of designs. Outlines of SpongeBob and his pal Patrick have been printed in bold blocks of colour across the fabric, incorporating Richard James’s signature camouflage design and capturing the essence of SpongeBob.
Mark Kingston, VP, European Licensing, Retail Sales and Trade Marketing for Nickelodeon consumer products commented: “This is truly a unique collaboration which sees SpongeBob propelled into the very high end of men’s fashion, cementing his style credentials. The creation of the SpongeBob by SpongeBob brand extension and this top-end range by Richard James is testament to SpongeBob’s broad appeal, which has taken him into the high profile fashion sector.”
Richard James said: "We have always been great fans of SpongeBob Square Pants at Richard James. The humour of the character transcends generations and the use of colour is what first grabbed our attention when we were approached by Nickelodeon to work with them on this collaboration. Richard James has always pushed the boundaries when it comes to using colour in menswear design, and SpongeBob's vibrant personality suits us well at Richard James.”
