Be Solidary! Be Boop!
Betty Boop joins Sandra Ibarra in Breast Cancer Campaign
The Sandra Ibarra Foundation for Solidarity in the face of cancer, together with Biplano and Karactermania have joined together to carry out a project which was made with the heart and born out of a dream by former model and Foundation President, Sandra Ibarra.
The “Betty Boop knows it, do you?” campaign, which was launched on October 19, World International Breast Cancer Day, features the iconic character created by legendary animator Max Fleischer and represented for licensing by King Features. Betty Boop has become a global glamour brand, a woman who manages to unite freedom, independence and beauty.
The centrepiece of the Be Solidary! Be Boop! campaign is a specially-designed, saucy and feminine pink handbag bearing an image of Betty Boop and the Sandra Ibarra Foundation signature orange ribbon. Betty was personally selected by Ibarra as the symbol of this year’s project and Ibarra herself contributed to the design. The color pink has become the international symbol of the fight against breast cancer.
The handbag will be available in Spain as of December in gift shops and department stores.
“The goal of this campaign is to make women, especially younger women, aware of the importance of prevention and early detection of breast cancer,” says Ibarra. “It provides practical and visual advice presented in a bright and youthful way through the voice and image of Betty Boop.”
Several educational initiatives will be carried out, including distribution of a brochure in which Betty Boop sends a message explaining how the early detection of breast cancer significantly increases the probability of survival. This is why breast self-examination is so important and Betty Boop will encourage all women, young and old, to do it, while explaining how to proceed. She will also remind women of the necessity of periodic mammograms, as well as the importance of a healthy lifestyle based on a well-balanced diet, proper weight maintenance and regular physical exercise, as all these factors have a decisive role in our health.
