Sega gets Fremantlemedia on board for Sonic

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) today announced a deal with SEGA Europe Ltd

The deal will see FME become the licensing agent for the globally-renowned Sonic the Hedgehog brand across Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Eastern Europe.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most popular video game characters of all time with over 70 million games sold worldwide.

Diana M. Dieckmann, VP of Licensing GAS&CEE for FME, comments, “We are thrilled to represent such a fantastic entertainment property and classic gaming brand across parts of Europe. FME is constantly seeking to extend new and exciting brands, and Sonic the Hedgehog complements our roster of successful licensing properties. We look forward to growing the licensing programme for the number one gaming character in the world and hope that fans of the game will enjoy interacting with the character beyond the videogames.”

Sissel Henno, Head of Brand Licensing SEGA Europe, adds: “We’re experiencing great demand for Sonic the Hedgehog and are very excited to be working with FME for GAS and Eastern Europe. With the 20th anniversary of Sonic this year and fantastic brand momentum, we’re confident that FME will be in a great position to grow the business in these markets.”

The deal underlines FME’s expertise in third-party brand management, having previously worked with some of the world’s leading brands, including Rebecca Bonbon, Miami Ink, L.A. Ink, American Chopper and Deadliest Catch. FME will bring Sonic the Hedgehog to November’s Munich Licensing Market and seek partners in a number of categories including apparel, fashion accessories, mobile phones and accessories, promotions, publishing (except partwork), sporting goods, stationery and toys.
