The Smurfs spread their wings to Spain
Imira Entertainment sells The Smurfs to Spain and signs further Iberian and Latin America deals for classic show
Imira Entertainment, Spain’s leading production and distribution company
specialising in youth programming, has signed Latin American and
Iberian sales for timeless animated series The Smurfs (256x26’) from
distributor IMPS, including a deal with Cartoon Network in Spain which
has acquired 104 episodes of the series for Free and Pay TV.
Further free TV deals have been signed with UCV Televisión in Chile (78 eps.), Televisora de Costa Rica (120 eps.), and Ecuador’s RTV (163 eps.), while in Portugal pay TV channel SIC has acquired 26 episodes. Imira represents rights in Iberia and Latin America (with the exception of Mexico and Brazil) to the classic much-loved show featuring the popular and distinctive blue characters.
Far, very far from here, in a little village full of mushroom – shaped houses live the Smurfs. These little characters have the most exciting adventures even though they are three apples high, have blue skin, dress in white trousers and a cap and are one hundred years old!
Christophe Goldberger, Head of Distribution and Marketing at Imira Entertainment said: “Everyone’s favourite blue characters are heading to new Spanish-speaking markets and we are sure that it will be a welcome addition to television screens in Spain, Latin America and Portugal. It’s a classic property whose popularity shows no signs of slowing down – much like the Smurfs themselves!”
