Shaun the Sheep takes to the farm
Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep to play major role in national trust ‘myfarm’ campaign
Aardman Animations has partnered with the National Trust to encourage children and families to learn about farming and food through the National Trust’s mass on-line farming ‘MyFarm’ project.
MyFarm aims to educate and engage the public in all aspects of farming. Every month the online community helps make real decisions which are then carried out on the farm, with real consequences.
The much loved Aardman character, Shaun the Sheep, has been brought on board to help expand the audience to include more families and young children. Shaun will be featuring in a dedicated ‘Shaun the Sheep’ day at the project’s Wimpole Home Farm in Cambridgeshire on 26th October, where visitors will be able to meet the character and pose for photos, whilst taking home a number of MyFarm and Shaun related puzzles and worksheets.
The National Trust has created a dedicated Shaun the Sheep page on the MyFarm website which will be regularly updated with new content, including activities and discussions aimed at a family audience. The website will also include Shaun the Sheep online games and downloadable posters.
Shaun’s involvement in the MyFarm project will reach over 3.8 million National Trust members through the official magazine and newsletter.
Andrew Cock-Starkey, Project Manager of MyFarm said: "We're really looking forward to welcoming Shaun to MyFarm. His broad family appeal and the content we can provide, thanks to working with Aardman, will appeal to both pre-school and school age children. Shaun's sense of fun will enable us to turn some of the bigger issues and debates of MyFarm into bite size chunks more readily digested by our younger MyFarmers. Learning can be fun too and teaching children about farming and food will be a lot more enjoyable with Shaun the Sheep's help."
Sean Clarke, Head of Aardman Rights, says, “Shaun the Sheep fits perfectly with the MyFarm project, the brand has broad family appeal and the cheeky and irreverent humour will help educate in a fun way the benefits of outdoors experiences and farming. The MyFarm project is very unique, encouraging families to get involved in real farming decisions, and we’re pleased that Shaun can be an ambassador for this important campaign.”
