Italian sportswear brand get big ideas in Asia

Ellesse launch in the Philippines

Ellesse's desire to dominate the global market has seen them team up with Primer Group of Companies and get a foothold in Southeast Asia.

“We are very committed to a strategy whereby we have set up offices in the Americas, Europe, and Asia,” says Ellesse Global Managing Director Mike Stropworth. “We have invested in a Hong Kong-based team, and have a strong presence in Japan and South Korea, and will launch in China next year. (Southeast Asia market) is controlled out of Manila through Primer.”

The Asian invasion by Ellesse is in-keeping with the brand’s business model’s evolution, from subsidiary and distribution, to licensing.

“Asia has always been a big part of our long term strategy,” shares Stopworth. The Philippines, particularly, bodes well as a jump off point for the brand’s entry into Asia. “The brand is right for the Philippines…This is an exciting market with a good mix of designer stores you’ll find in any country, right down to local retailers.”
