Oxford University furniture is not vulgar and is authorized
Licensing of Britain's oldest university causing a controversy
After announcing that Oxford University was licensing it's name and developing a new line of furniture, Professor Emeritus Peter Oppenheimer was quoted in the Daly Telegraph as saying that the lines was not only vulgar
but unauthorized by the University.
Hannah Aspey, brand and licensing manager for Oxford Limited, has hit back saying that the line is authorized and generates royalties for the university.
The Telegraph reported that Halo is in negotiations to sell the furntiure range at Harrod's, John Lewis and Selfridges, in the UK.
It also plans to sell the line in China, where wealthy Chinese have a taste for all things traditionally British.
Pieces in the range include a senior common room chair and a tutor's chair, leather writing desk and a bookcase inspired by the interiors of Oxford's 400-year-old Bodleian Library.
